Aspen Design Challenge

So, this past week I spent a few days in Aspen, Colorado. A few semesters ago at CalArts I worked on a project that was submitted to the IDEX: AIGA Aspen Design Challenge. Each submission had to address water consumption issues in your local area - so ours pertained to L.A.Rethink Your Green has a been a great success and the trip was amazing. I spent the whole time working non-stop, taking pictures, eating, marveling at the amount of pine trees and taking in all of the fresh air.

the girl

She is beautiful. If you haven't already read her blog, you must go see it now. This is how you do black, grey and red. Camille is definitely a kindred spirit - sometimes the most simple elements are the most seductive.

Sorry for the lack of posts this past week, I went to Aspen, Colorado for a few days to attend the Index : AIGA Aspen Design Summit conference. Will post pictures soon!

Clarissa Explains It all - Remember that??

This look is my 90's grunge impersonation. I'm thinking a mix between Melissa Joan Hart's character in Clarissa Explains It All (Nickelodeon circa 1993) and Christina Applegate's character in Married With Children as Kelly Bundy. It's all slightly trashy looking, but really the pieces are basic staples - shredded denim, bandage skirts, white Ts, floppy sweaters, combat boots. Couldn't ask for more.

My granny made this necklace and the chunky white beads are perfectly kitsch and really tie in the solid bold colors and shapes of the 90s. How did she know I would love this?

H y p n o t i z e

I've probably watched this video about 20 times from start to finish and every time I do the more I fall in love with Gareth Pugh. Plus the soundtrack from the Shining? Mesmerizing & hypnotic. I couldn't ask for more.

Pugh + Shining = Love.

Graphic Design + Fashion = Love.

I recently completed a project using a sound clip from The Shining. Check it.

Diamonds & Big Lizards

Finished this DIY project a while ago and just wore it out today. I took an American Apparel bra and made it a little more disco. I painstakingly hand-sewed all of these sequins one by one. The effect is pretty stunning and really fun to layer under draping tanks. I'm starting a new shredded black tank tonight...

Oh yeah, and my boyfriend and I went to Universal Studios today. I have whiplash from the Mummy ride. I love dinosaurs. This velociraptor is bitchin and about to eat me.

The Burger Hole

So recently my mom and my boyfriend ate at Shakers (in South Pasadena) a.k.a. "The Burger Hole" from the movie Role Models. Completely funny, you must see it. I actually went to the so. Cal Renaissance Pleasure Faire with the BF this year. It was everything I expected it to be and more - not for the faint of heart. If you haven't gone, then go! And dress up! Everyone's costume was seriously better than mine (I was a peasant).

Anywho, I ate glorious french toast.

I've been living in these F21 denim shorts. I'm pondering whether or not I should stud spike the back of these boots. Suggestions?

Lovely Skeletons

This editorial, "Neo-Romantic" from June Italian Vogue is pitch perfect. The Rodarte, McQueen and Balenciaga pieces are amazing compared against each other. It is absolutely anti-Balmain.
The fleshy vulnerable pastels contrast beautifully against the harsh silhouettes, bondage jewelry and wicked silver rings. The more I look at Abbey Lee the more I love her.

I need that skeleton hand piece.

Shiny Hard Soft

You can't see it in this picture, but I decided to wear American Apparel lame matte black leggings. I've been giving into the whole leggings-as-pants thing lately - I don't care if people hate it. It looks crazy awesome with the right pairings. So basically it was shiny all over with this new jacket I just bought from the AA warehouse store in downtown L.A. (Lots of discounted prices! Highly recommended).

It seems that AA gets better everyday - like their new V-Neck Micro Mesh Bodysuit. Just the right amount of the Jetsons.

This crazy tribal necklace is from F21. It is really heavy and chunky and has little hanging daggers. Epic.

Macaron Dreams

I dreamt of eating macarons last night and imagined that they tasted like the most delicious dessert ever. So after taking a hike in Pasadena's Eaton Canyon, I set off to regain the calories I had just worked off.

The macarons turned out to be everything I had hoped they would be! Nothing compared to Ladurees I'm sure, but I was happy.

Tar

These pants are like tar on your legs. They were a steal to boot from H&M. Simple elements, clean lines.

I'm watching Lagerfeld Confidential tonight. You may have seen it considering it came out a few years ago. I'll let you know how it is.
