JUNE HIT LIST

Gravitating toward perversely pink shoes and lip color.... and glitter. Yikes, thats a formula for disaster. But hey, I can get away with it. I'm from LA.

fashion is a feeling

I don't always look at the Sartorialist's website. In fact I go for months without even a peek. After browsing past the third page, I'm like, "ok! I get it! People in New York, Milan and Paris have infinitely better style and taste than people in Los Angeles!" And really, I can only handle so much concentrated beauty at once.

But sometimes I realize that his photos actually make my heart beat just a little faster because he has captured a feeling, an energy: People in the city expressing who and what they are that day. Genuine creative energy that is tangible and alive and a reason to do everything.

Walk Through Fire

Shirt / J Crew

I've got that jittery-jacked-up-on-coffee feeling right now. Drinking coffee is a hobby of mine, you see. I drink coffee, therefore I am. I can think. I can write. I can dance. I can speak. See? I drink coffee to wake up the dead.

1. Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook

I don't really read fiction. Unless there is a new Harry Potter book (sadly, that era has ended), or if a particular good friend decides to send me drafts of his soon-to-be-published epic novel (still waiting for book No.2!)
Flew through Accidental Billionaires and Rework, which should be read by anyone who has a small creative business. Now, I'm vicariously living through Philip Broughton, who dropped everything mid-thirties to go HBS. Major jealous.

Jacket / Gap 1969

I recently purged my closet of all frivolous, unworn and unwanted garments. It was a giant mountain of clothes that had gotten too comfortable hanging around, taking up space, not doing anything useful. If the piece didn't make me feel fabulous, I gave it away. At the moment, fewer choices in my closet is a thing of clarity for me.

SUCKER PUNCHED

Pants / Zara

Dear KPCC,
This morning, you dissed The Olsen Twins. I listen to your shows (with gusto!) about the woes of the world and the financially challenged citizens of America. Please don't hurt my feelings.

Love,
Michelle
